PARTICIPATING IN BOARD MEETINGS
Public Participation Is Encouraged
The Board invites district citizens to attend meetings and share their ideas and opinions. Regular School Board meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the district office board room, unless otherwise specified. All Board meetings, except executive sessions, are open to the public.
Discussion In Advance Is Helpful...
When a person wishes to bring a matter to the attention of the Board, it is recommended but not required that the matter first be discussed with the district superintendent. Prior discussion provides time for the superintendent to gather relevant information in order that the Board may give the matter adequate consideration. Members of the public may ask the superintendent to place an item of concern on the Board meeting agenda. The request should be made in writing to the superintendent at least seven working days before the scheduled meeting.
...But Not Required
During regular Board meetings, members of the public are specifically invited to present their views in the "Concerns of Patrons" section of the agenda. Audience members are encouraged but not required to sign up before the meeting using a list provided for that purpose. Because Board members may not be familiar with an issue, they may not be able to respond at the time it is presented. However, the issue will receive study, and a response will be forthcoming. If members of the public wish to address an item that already is on the agenda, they may do so during Concerns of Patrons or when the item comes up for discussion by the Board.
